Several customers of Ford’s 2021 F-150 (particularly the Powerboost version) report learning that their axle bolts have prematurely sheared off either through driving or through normal maintenance. Ford appears to be replacing the parts under warranty. Customers may have claims for defective design, and for damages arising from a sudden failure while driving.
Ford’s F-150 warranty includes a mandatory binding arbitration provision, but no class action waiver.
BMW settled a similar lawsuit in 2015 over allegations that the wheels on its Z4 vehicles were defective and prone to cracking.
