Several users of the Mazda CX-9 report their finding cracks and other issues with the metal in their engines, leading to leaks of coolant within the engine block of their vehicles, requiring replacement of the engine or the entire engine block, repairs which can cost up to $5,000. The issue primarily appears to affect the 2016 CX-9, the 2017 CX-9, the 2018 CX-9, and the 2020 CX-9.
Mazda CX-9s are the subject of a different class action lawsuit, filed in 2022, alleging that the water pumps in 2008 through 2015 Mazda CX-9s have a defective water pump that can lead to catastrophic engine failure.
