The Diesel Exhaust Fluid Tank Heater is defective on Model Year 2020 and 2021 Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras.  

Owners of Model Year 2020 Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500 and Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500 and Model Year 2021 Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, and Sierra 2500, Sierra 3500 report the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Tank Heater is defective and may short circuit. Owners report having multiple replacements, with one owner stating having three tank replacements and two pump replacements in just two years. One service technician reported an 11% failure rate in 2 years

One NHTSA complaint (NHTSA ID Number: 11457481) reported that the “DEF system failed. Wire harness burned out. Tank failure. Truck went into limp mode. I personally know 3 others with the same issue.” 

General Motors (GM) announced the issue for Model Years 2020 and 2021 in a January 2021 Service Bulletin.
