VirusTotal, a computer security product owned by Google subsidiary company Chronicle, was vulnerable to a security exploit that allowed hackers to take over users’ devices.
On April 25, 2022, VirusTotal’s founder, Bernardo Quintero tweeted a rebuttal to the report claiming that VirusTotal was not the cause of the security vulnerability, but it is unclear to what degree this addresses the issue.
The problem was apparently initially reported to Google in May 2021 but was not addressed until January 2022.Symantec, the company that makes Norton Antivirus software, faced a similar class action lawsuit in 2017, claiming that their antivirus software was vulnerable to exploit.
