An Apple policy change will enable developers to auto-renew subscriptions with price increases without opt-in by customers. The changes include subscriptions for services on iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS devices.
Apple does provide renewal notifications but does not allow customers to opt-in to the price increase. Customers report renewals with price increases they did not approve. One customer reported a Disney + subscription increased from $89.99 to $119.99 without their approval. Customers who are charged renewals must ask for a refund.
Customers have also reported that it is unclear when they download a subscription application.
In July 2018, a judge approved a $16.5 million settlement against Apple in a lawsuit that alleged the company automatically renewed subscriptions without consumer consent.
