The Raleigh News and Observer is a newspaper subsidiary of The McClatchy Company, with distribution in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill region of North Carolina.
Subscribers to the Raleigh News and Observer allege the newspaper charges customer credit cards after subscription cancellation and harasses customers for payment on canceled subscriptions. Former customers claim they had to request cancellation multiple times as well as file complaints to stop being charged, but The News and Observer would again charge their credit cards months later. Further, when customers try to obtain a refund for unauthorized payments for canceled subscriptions, the company denies the request, stating they have a “no refund policy”.
Former customers also allege harassment as they receive telemarketing and collections calls multiple times a week after they cancel their subscriptions, but continue to be charged.
The company’s terms of service contain a mandatory arbitration provision.
