Peloton owners report bikes are suffering from rusting and corrosion. In some cases, customers report rusted seat bolts. The issue is said to affect at least 6,000 bikes.
News sources say the company knew about the delivery of rusty bikes but covered it up in an operation called Project Tinman, in which warehouse workers were asked to apply chemicals to possible rusted parts in order to conceal the corrosion.
Rust is not covered under Peloton’s warranty, so customers must pay out of pocket if they want to fix the issue. Peloton’s terms of service contain a binding arbitration provision.
