Google Pixel glitch prevents customers from making emergency service calls

In January 2022 customers began experiencing a problem with their Google phones that prevented them from calling emergency service phone numbers. Google acknowledged the problem and released an update to fix it.

However, customers are still reporting problems calling emergency services. Customers can call other contacts; the problem only occurs when they try calling emergency services. When customers call 9-1-1, they do not hear a dial tone.

In a similar investigation, the FTC required four phone companies to pay $6 million over failed 9-1-1 calls.
